Ministerial visit to Home Energy Scotland

20220421_101807

Earlier this year Patrick Harvie, Minister for Zero Carbon Buildings, Active Travel and Tenants’ Rights announced an increase in funding for the Home Energy Scotland service by 20%. This will allow our service to support an extra 12,000 households a year in making their homes warmer and easier to heat.

He recently visited our south east advice centre to see first-hand how our service is delivered, to discuss the increased importance of the service given the rise in energy prices and to learn how we adapted to online support during the pandemic. Joining him were Mike Thornton CEO of Energy Saving Trust, Harry Mayers, Head of Home Energy Scotland and Teresa Bray, CEO of Changeworks; the organisation contracted to deliver the south east advice service.

The visit to the Home Energy Scotland team included discussions around the importance of the service and the valuable support provided by our knowledgeable advisors. Mr Harvie also took the opportunity to listen to a call with a customer who was referred to the Warmer Homes Scotland programme. This Scottish Government programme offers funding to eligible households for home energy improvements worth up to £5,000 that can lead to a reduction in energy bills of around £300 a year.
