At Home Energy Scotland, we know local communities are at the heart of making Scotland a greener and more energy-efficient place to live. That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce our new Community Analytics report – a tool designed to help community groups across Scotland take their energy projects to the next level.

What’s Community Analytics about?

Community Analytics is all about giving you the data you need to make informed decisions for your community’s low carbon future. It’s powered by Home Analytics, a huge database managed by Energy Saving Trust, packed with details on Scotland’s housing. The Community Analytics report will tell you how much energy the homes in your community use, and how they can be improved so they use less energy, and even generate their own renewable energy.

We take this complex data and turn it into a simple, easy-to-understand report that’s tailored to the homes in your local area. The report comes in two parts – a spreadsheet to allow you to carry out your own analyses and a written report with visual summaries of your data. Whether you’re aiming to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions or tackle fuel poverty, our report will give you the insights you need to get started.

What will you find in the report?

Each report is customised for your specific area and includes:

  • A breakdown of the key features of the homes in your community, compared to regional and national averages.
  • Modelled scenarios that show the potential costs and savings of different energy-saving improvements.
  • Signposting to resources that can help your community take action.

The Community Analytics report doesn’t give information on individual homes: householders can use our Home Energy Check to receive a report for their own home.

How could you use this report?

You'll be able to see from the report what kinds of insulation and heating could work for the homes in your area and use that information to talk to householders in your community about how to get that insulation and heating. The report could also be used in a funding application to demonstrate the need for funding for a specific project, or to support bulk-purchase schemes and attract contractors to rural and remote areas.

Who can get this report?

If you’re part of a legally constituted community group in Scotland with a defined geographic area, you’re eligible to access the Community Analytics report. All you need to do is sign a data sharing agreement to ensure the information is used responsibly and not for commercial purposes.

Be part of our pilot project

We’re running a pilot project in 2024-25, offering this report to up to 20 community groups. Not only will you get access to this powerful tool, but you’ll also help us make it even better by giving us feedback on how it works for you.

If your community group is ready to dive in and make a difference, we’d love to hear from you! This is your chance to get the data that can drive real change in your area.
