Partner with Home Energy Scotland

Our expert advisors work with organisations as well as directly with households. Whether you’re looking to make your community more sustainable or are part of an organisation helping people struggling with their energy bills, we’d like to work with you.

Partners shaking hands at work in the community

Partner with us

We work with organisations that help people struggling to heat their home and with community-led projects that help people tackle climate change by reducing CO2 emissions from home energy. We support events, share resources, offer free training and workshops, and invite organisations to refer people through our secure online portal.

By partnering with us, you can help the people you support save energy and money and keep their homes warm.

What we do in detail

We offer free, impartial and expert advice on saving energy, renewable energy and low and zero carbon heat, water efficiency and more. If someone needs advice and finds it difficult to use the telephone or email, we’ll signpost them to a local partner who can visit them or offer home visits if a local service doesn’t exist.

We offer specialist energy advisors, Energycarers, who provide intensive support to households with issues relating to physical or mental health, disability, family circumstances, low income and expensive heating.

We can refer eligible households to Warmer Homes Scotland, for free or subsidised energy saving home improvements like heating systems and insulation, to local authority area-based programmes, and advise on other funding like grants and interest free loans from the Scottish Government.

We work with the Green Homes Network, where you can find out about, and even meet with, homeowners who have made green improvements to their homes. It’s designed to support and inspire homeowners on their journey to net zero.

We work with Business Energy Scotland to advise organisations on energy use, renewables and water efficiency and with Local Energy Scotland to support community energy projects.

Refer people through our secure online portal

Our secure online portal is quick and easy to use, and you can make a referral at any time, using any device. You just need online access and permission from the person you’re referring.

Referring clients to us means we can keep you updated on their journey. As soon as you make the referral, we’re sent a notification and can contact the householder to see how we can help. You can check progress and get reports on your referrals at any time and our referral portal even allows you to download reports so you can measure the impact of the work we do together.

Every year more than 385 organisations – including the NHS, councils, local charities, energy advice services and community groups – use the Home Energy Scotland Portal to refer more than 13,000 people to our award-winning service. Many more organisations signpost their clients directly to us for support.

Free training on heat pumps and electric heating advice

We can help your organisation provide sound advice on home heating options to the people you support.

For example, if your organisation provides energy advice to households, we'll deliver free training about heat pumps. After that, you'll be able to inform your clients about how to use heat pumps, the technologies available, which homes are suitable and more.

We've also got online courses that can be tailored to your organisation's needs, covering electric heating, metering, and billing. Those completing the courses will be ready to advise people on various electric heating systems, including storage heaters and heat pumps. 'Restricted meter’ tariffs like ComfortPlus Control and Total Heat Total Control are also covered.

Supporting communication needs

We know how hard it can be for some people to access information and we’re proud to work with organisations that support people who need information in different formats. This helps make sure our energy and money saving assistance reaches far and wide.

We offer translation and interpretation services for written information and three-way phone calls and – with permission – can talk to a nominated third party on a person’s behalf. We’re a partner of Happy to Translate, the initiative that supports organisations to engage with users of other languages so no matter what language someone uses, where they’re from or what barriers they face, we make sure we can clearly communicate with them so they receive a quality service.

We’ve also produced some resources in languages other than English which we’d love you to share.
