Home Energy Scotland has several social media channels to allow us to communicate directly with individuals, businesses and communities who are interested in saving energy and reducing their carbon emissions.
We want you to engage with us on social media, but we expect the same level of courtesy that we offer you, so we have a short set of ‘house rules’.
Please do:
- comply with the social media platform’s (ie Facebook, X, LinkedIn and Instagram) terms of use, as well as these house rules
- only post information you’re happy for everyone to see
- keep your posts on topic
- keep the language appropriate
- share our posts with your friends and family.
Please don’t:
- post personal information, such as phone numbers or addresses
- post anything unlawful, defamatory, embarrassing, or damaging to someone’s reputation, libellous, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, sexually oriented or racially offensive
- bully, harass or intimidate any individual or organisation
- spam or troll our social media accounts (ie post persistent negative or abusive posts designed to provoke a response)
- post the same message, or a similar message, repeatedly
- promote or advertise other services on our channels.
We will not tolerate abusive or offensive posts on our social media channels.
We will delete, in whole or in part, any posts that we feel are inappropriate and/or break our house rules.
We will remove, block, ban and/or report any user to the associated social media platform - and if necessary, the police - who:
- repeatedly violates our house rules
- uses an offensive image as their profile picture
- has an offensive username
- sends us messages that we believe to be abusive, obscene or graphic.
Monitoring and responding
We monitor our social media accounts Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.30pm. We read all messages and reply to them where appropriate, but we can’t reply to every message we receive.
We will do our best to respond to any requests for advice and direct you to relevant information on our website or external advice providers where appropriate. However, we cannot provide a bespoke, individual advice service via our social media channels.
Remember, if you need tailored advice on saving energy at home, we’re on hand to help. Find out the different ways you can contact us for advice.
Likes, follows and shares
We carefully choose who we follow, like and share content from, but we cannot follow, like or share everything requested or received.
We sometimes follow, like or share content from other organisations or individuals that we think will be of interest to our followers, but this doesn’t mean that we endorse the originating person or organisation.
We reserve the right to modify or change our house rules at any time.
What to do if you see something that doesn’t look right
Should you spot any content or comments posted on our social media channels, which you believe does not comply with these house rules, the terms and policies of the social media channel concerned, or the terms and conditions of our website, then please report it to us via a direct message on the relevant channel.
