Wise About Energy is a service designed to help residents in Clackmannanshire, Inverclyde, Renfrewshire, and West Dunbartonshire, make their homes or businesses more energy efficient, so they can enjoy lower fuel bills and reduce their carbon emissions. The service, managed by Glasgow based social enterprise The Wise Group, has been a trusted Home Energy Scotland partner since its launch in 2018.

Eighty-three-year-old Mrs L lives in a two-bedroom semi-detached house in Greenock with her husband, who has advanced dementia. The couple have stayed in the house together for thirty years. Mrs L contacted specialist advisor William Munro at Wise About Energy to inquire about replacing their old unreliable gas boiler.

Mrs L confided that she was finding it increasingly difficult to heat their older home and the cold conditions were taking a toll on their health. Things were so bad she was considering putting her husband into a care home and leaving the house theyโ€™d shared for many years.

William arranged to carry out an energy assessment of the property, generating a new Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). The EPC graded their stone wall property as a band F โ€“ the second-lowest performance rating โ€“ and recommended several improvements including a new central heating system.

As Mrs L receives attendance allowance, William referred her to Home Energy Scotland using our dedicated secure online portal system.

The advisor she spoke to found she was eligible for support through Warmer Homes Scotland, which funds heating, insulation and more.

Mrs L had a survey at her home to see what could be done, and the following month Warmworks (the company that manages the Warmer Homes Scotland scheme) installed a new condensing gas boiler, radiators, heating system insulation, a room thermostat, carbon dioxide detector, and new smoke alarms.

A few months later, while out on a nearby visit, William popped in for a chat with Mr and Mrs L to see how they were getting on. Mrs L said that the house was so much warmer and comfortable than before and was so grateful for all the help and support they had received because it has allowed them to stay together in the home that they love.
