How did Home Energy Scotland help?

To support Fife College’s wellbeing and sustainability goals, Home Energy Scotland delivered a mix of on campus engagement, practical resources and accessible learning.

On campus engagement

Home Energy Scotland joined wellbeing cafes at the Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy campuses, where advisors manned stalls and spoke directly with students and colleagues. These informal conversations made it easy for people to ask questions, get tailored advice, and learn simple steps they could take at home.

Practical tools and resources

The team shared popular freebies such as water saving tap inserts and shower timers. These items encouraged immediate action and helped students and staff start reducing their water and energy use straight away.

Wellbeing Festival webinar

During the college’s Wellbeing Festival, Hazel Anderson from Home Energy Scotland delivered a 30 minute webinar packed with practical hints and tips for saving on energy bills over winter. The session gave participants clear guidance they could apply quickly and confidently.

A tailored approach

Home Energy Scotland shaped all activity around the college’s needs, focusing on easy to implement changes and providing resources that aligned with Fife College’s wellbeing and sustainability priorities. This ensured the support felt relevant, practical and accessible to everyone who took part.

The outcome

The collaboration between Home Energy Scotland and Fife College significantly improved employees’ understanding of home energy efficiency and sustainable practices. Feedback showed that colleagues valued the practical advice and the free resources, which helped them take immediate steps to reduce their energy use at home.

Overall, the initiative:

  • increased awareness of simple, effective energy saving measures
  • supported the organisation’s commitment to sustainability by linking daily actions with long term environmental goals; and
  • enhanced employee engagement by connecting wellbeing with environmental responsibility.

While it’s still early to measure direct energy savings, the rise in knowledge, confidence and motivation among staff is already a clear indicator of success.

What Fife College said

A special thanks to Hazel Anderson who orchestrated everything from Home Energy Scotland and also to Gemma Sandie who joined our wellbeing café."

Looking ahead

This collaboration highlighted the value of combining wellbeing initiatives with sustainability education. Building on this positive engagement, the college plans to host similar events and webinars annually to keep energy advice accessible and relevant throughout the year.

Fife College also intends to explore further partnership opportunities with Home Energy Scotland, strengthening the link between wellbeing, sustainability and practical support for staff and students.
